Another great week! Students are working so hard and are starting to master the independent pace of the classroom. Many students wrapped up the assignments for Unit 1 and have pretested on Unit 2 Solving Inequalities. Students who pretested will begin working on the next unit next week. The due date for all Unit 1 Solving Equations assignments has been changed to Wednesday August 31, 2016. Students are to complete all assignments except Word Problems by this date. This week students also are working on Literal Equations with small groups. Literal Equations is a brand new concept for students and often is a struggle, but students are tackling the task head on! Progress reports go home today and are expected to be signed and returned. parents please see note attached to progress reports about the gradebook and let me know if you have any questions.
Another great week! This week students began on their independent paced work. All student information and assignments can be found in Canvas. The target date for completing Unit 1 Solving Equations is Friday August 26, 2016. Students are to complete only the assignments that they are assigned. Many students showed their mastery on the pretest and were exempt from some of the centers. We are getting the hang of Canvas and classroom procedures. Students are participating in carpet time white board sessions for additional help and understanding. Students were assigned a textbook to keep at home. Below are the chapter and section correlations for Unit 1. In addition to working on Unit 1 Modules, students completed their group work on If You Hopped Like A Frog and their Figure Me Out. The Figure Me Out assignment has really given both their peers and myself an opportunity to learn more about each student.
2-1 Solving One-Step Equations 2-2 Solving Two-Step Equations 2-3 Solving Multi-Step Equations 2-4 Solving Equations With Variables On Both Sides 2-5 Literal Equations 2-7 Solving Proportions What a great start to the school year! This week has been full of fun and time spent getting to know one another. Students started on their first assignment called "Figure Me Out" where they have been able to introduce themselves to both their classmates and myself while demonstrating their math skills. In addition to this activity, we were introduced to the first unit Solving Equations by reading the book "If You Hopped Like a Frog." This book focuses on the extraordinary abilities of different creatures and challenges students to think of what they could do if they had comparable abilities and to test those abilities using proportions. Students also took a pretest to determine where they will start in unit 1. In week two, students will begin working on unit 1 Solving Equations. Resources for Unit 1 are found under the tab along with student checklist.
